RIUCI bamboo is an initiative that promotes scientific research and the exchange of knowledge in various fields of science to strengthen the development of the bamboo sector. RIUCI bamboo is endorsed by the International Bamboo and Rattan Organization-INBAR through its Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean.
RIUCI bamboo is born in the framework of the project "Support for Research, Development and Innovation and Higher Education in Sustainable Construction in Ecuador", funded by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation - AECID and implemented by the International Organization of Bamboo and Rattan - INBAR in partnership with various local actors.
Manifesto of Interest for the Formation of the RIUCI bamboo
On January 28, 2022, representatives from several universities in the region signed a manifesto to create the International Network of Universities and Research Centers related to bamboo. The aim was to establish an instance that would allow the development and exchange of information, integration of experts and linkages in research topics related to bamboo to contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Thus, the first step for the establishment of RIUCI bamboo was the formation of a Start-up Management Team. This team was in charge of laying the foundations of the network to make it operational. Its members were:
